Everyday Mindset Hypnotherapy in Sydney offers a powerful way to create meaningful, lasting change by working directly with your subconscious mind. If you’re experiencing anxiety, self-doubt, emotional patterns that keep repeating, or a sense of feeling stuck despite your best efforts, hypnotherapy can help you understand what’s happening beneath the surface — and gently create a lasting change.

As a Sydney-based hypnotherapist, I support people who are ready to move beyond coping and start creating real inner shift towards their personal goals. Hypnotherapy allows us to access the beliefs, emotional responses, and protective patterns stored in the subconscious, so transformation feels natural rather than forced.

This approach is especially effective for anxiety, confidence, emotional healing, and personal growth. Sessions are personalised, supportive, and focused on helping you feel safe, clear, and empowered as you move forward.

In-person sessions are available in Sydney in Five Dock and Balmain, with online hypnotherapy also offered for those who prefer to work from the comfort of their own space.

Hypnotherapy is the art of reshaping thoughts, the science of reprogramming beliefs, and the journey to rediscover the incredible power within.
What is Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is a therapeutic approach that combines hypnosis with psychological techniques to support meaningful change. It works by guiding the subconscious mind to cooperate with your conscious intentions, allowing deeper insight and transformation to take place.

In hypnotherapy, hypnosis refers to a state of focused attention and heightened internal awareness. It is not a state of unconsciousness or loss of control. In fact, all hypnosis is self-hypnosis — a hypnotherapist simply guides you into a relaxed, receptive state where change becomes more accessible. Throughout the process, you remain aware, present, and in control of your thoughts and actions.

Hypnosis itself does not “do” anything on its own. Instead, it creates the conditions in which therapeutic work can happen more effectively. When the mind is relaxed and focused, it becomes easier to explore underlying beliefs, emotional patterns, and learned responses.

Through neuroplasticity, science has shown that the brain is capable of forming new neural pathways. Hypnotherapy works with this natural ability for change, supporting the mind to update unhelpful patterns at a deeper level rather than relying on willpower alone.

How Hypnotherapy Works
Hypnotherapy works by accessing the subconscious mind — the part of our mind that stores learned behaviours, emotional responses, beliefs, and automatic patterns. While our conscious mind is analytical and protective, our subconscious mind plays a key role in how we react, feel, and respond to situations, often without conscious awareness.

In a hypnotherapy session, you are guided into a state of deep relaxation and focused attention. This allows the mind to become more receptive to insight and change, without force or effort. You are not asleep, unconscious, or out of control. Instead, you remain aware, present, and actively involved throughout the process.

When the subconscious mind is accessed in this way, it becomes possible to explore the underlying experiences and interpretations that shaped certain thoughts, feelings, or behaviours. Through this process, unhelpful patterns can be gently updated, and new, more supportive ways of responding can be integrated.

Hypnotherapy is effective because the brain is capable of change. Through neuroplasticity, the mind can form new neural pathways when it feels safe, supported, and focused. Hypnotherapy works with this natural capacity for change, allowing transformation to occur at the root rather than through surface-level effort alone.

What to Expect in Your Hypnotherapy Sessions
Each hypnotherapy session is personalised, collaborative, and designed to help you feel safe, supported, and in control throughout the process. While every session is unique, the structure generally follows these stages:
01
I will help you enter a deeply relaxed, focused state that allows us to explore the origin of the beliefs and behaviours connected to your concern.
02
Together, we uncover the interpretations and beliefs that were formed through past experiences, often without conscious awareness at the time.
03
In a safe and nurturing space, you’ll be supported to resolve and reframe past experiences so they no longer influence you in unhelpful ways.
04
Using carefully structured hypnotic language, I guide you to update unhelpful patterns and strengthen more supportive, resourceful beliefs.

Will Hypnotherapy Work for Me?
Whether or not you believe in hypnosis, we are all shaped by subconscious influences. Our upbringing, life experiences, culture, and environment all play a role in how we think, feel, and respond to the world around us.
Hypnotherapy offers a way to become more aware of these patterns — and to gently work with them rather than feeling controlled by them.
If you’re wondering whether hypnotherapy is right for you, it can help to reflect on a few simple questions:
-
Are you feeling unsatisfied or stuck in certain areas of your life?
-
Do you notice fears, emotional patterns, or limiting beliefs that keep repeating?
-
Would you like to feel more confident, calm, or at ease within yourself?
-
Do you sense there may be more available to you than what you’re currently experiencing?

If you resonate with any of these, hypnotherapy may be a supportive approach for you. Hypnosis allows for deep self-exploration, and those who are open to the process often find it helpful in creating meaningful change.

Hypnotherapy is a collaborative process. Its effectiveness depends on your willingness to engage, reflect, and participate in your own growth. You don’t need to be “good at hypnosis” — you simply need a genuine desire for change and a readiness to explore it in a supportive environment.

If you’re looking for a non-verbal, body-based way to regulate stress, you may find breathwork a supportive complement to hypnotherapy.

Can Anyone Be Hypnotised?
This is one of the most common questions I’m asked during discovery calls. The short answer is: yes — if you want to be. Hypnosis is not something that happens to you; it’s a process you actively participate in. It works best when you’re willing to engage and open to the experience.
Hypnotherapists are trained in specific techniques to guide focused attention, but we are not controlling the mind or overriding free will. If you don’t want to be hypnotised, or you feel uncomfortable at any point, the process simply won’t work — and your autonomy is always respected.

During a session, a hypnotherapist may use gentle suggestibility techniques to tailor the approach to you. However, while in hypnosis, you cannot be made to say or do anything that goes against your values, beliefs, or intentions. You remain fully in control throughout.
You are not asleep during hypnosis. Trance is a state of relaxed, focused awareness where you are present and aware of what is happening around you. The hypnotherapist does not take control of your mind — we simply offer suggestions aligned with your goals. If a suggestion doesn’t feel right to you, your mind will naturally reject it.

This is why your willingness and intention to change play such an important role in the success of hypnotherapy.

The Evidence Behind Hypnotherapy
Today, hypnosis is less about mystery and more about an evidence-informed understanding of how the mind works.
Hypnotherapy is supported by a growing body of scientific research and has been studied across a range of clinical and therapeutic settings. Research from institutions such as Harvard University and Stanford University has contributed to a broader understanding of how focused attention and suggestion can influence perception, behaviour, and emotional regulation.
A comprehensive review published through PubMed Central examined the efficacy, safety, and clinical applications of medical hypnosis, including its use in reducing anxiety, managing pain, and supporting psychological wellbeing in medical and therapeutic settings. The review highlights that hypnosis, when used appropriately by trained professionals, is considered a safe and effective complementary approach, particularly for conditions involving stress, pain, and emotions. Importantly, it reinforces that hypnosis does not involve loss of control, but works through focused attention, suggestion, and the brain’s natural capacity for change.

The Efficacy, Safety and Applications of Medical Hypnosis

Hypnotherapy is also recognised by professional and medical bodies, including the American Psychological Association, as a complementary therapeutic approach for issues such as anxiety, stress, pain management, and habit change. Earlier research, including a widely cited review by Alfred A. Barrios, Ph.D, analysed more than 2,000 published therapy-related sources and reported an average client success rate of 93% for hypnotherapy after approximately six sessions. This was compared with reported success rates of 38% after an average of 600 sessions for psychoanalysis, and 72% after 22 sessions for behavioural therapy. While this data comes from earlier research and should be understood in its historical context, it continues to be referenced as part of the broader body of literature highlighting hypnotherapy’s potential effectiveness when used appropriately and collaboratively.
Reviews of the clinical literature, including work referenced by the Psychotherapy & Counselling Federation of Australia, further support hypnotherapy’s effectiveness when used in alignment with client motivation and therapeutic goals. Its effectiveness lies in its ability to support the subconscious mind to work in cooperation with conscious intentions, allowing change to occur in a focused and supportive way.

Common Myths About Hypnosis
Myth#1

One loses control of their mind when in hypnosis
Hypnosis is often misunderstood as losing control, but in reality, hypnotherapy helps you regain control. Throughout the process, you will only disclose what you feel comfortable sharing, maintaining full control of all your senses at all times during the process. Hypnotherapy empowers you to utilise the power of your mind to address your concerns. Openness to change is essential for effective transformation.
Myth # 2:

Only those with a weak mind can be hypnotised
Hypnosis responsiveness varies among individuals, with some being naturally more receptive while others may need guidance or practice. In hypnotherapy, clients willingly participate and actively involve their attention, imagination, and concentration. The ability to enter a hypnotic state is influenced by factors such as openness to the experience and the ability to focus.
Myth # 3

Hypnosis is a woo-woo and not based in science
Hypnosis has been extensively studied and used in clinical settings for therapeutic purposes ever since Freud and before. The historical evidence, coupled with empirical research, demonstrates its effectiveness in pain management, anxiety reduction, and behaviour change. There're multiple studies available for those who want to learn more.
