Hypnotherapy for Vaginismus in Sydney
Trauma-informed RTT® and hypnotherapy for vaginismus to reduce involuntary tightening and anxiety around sex, tampons, and pelvic exams.
Hypnosis sessions are available in-person in Sydney Inner West: Balmain and Five Dock, or online across Australia (AEST).
This therapeutic approach works well independently as well as alongside pelvic floor physio, GP care, and sex therapy.

When your body tenses even when you want to feel relaxed
If sex feels painful, impossible, or the idea of penetration is panic-inducing, it’s not “all in your head” and it’s not a personal failing.
Vaginismus is often a protective body response: the nervous system anticipates danger, the pelvic floor tightens, and fear reinforces the cycle. Australian GP guidance describes vaginismus as a psychophysiological condition where fear, avoidance, and pelvic muscle guarding can keep the loop going.
Hypnotherapy for vaginismus helps you calm that pattern so your body can respond differently without forcing anything.
What I Help With
Clients usually come to me because one or more of these are true:
-
Sex is painful or avoided because it feels impossible to relax
-
Tampons are painful or not possible
-
Pelvic exams and cervical screening cause intense fear or overwhelm
-
You feel anxious before intimacy, even though you’re in a caring relationship with a partner you trust
-
You’ve tried “pushing through” and it is not working
You don’t need to be “fixed.” You need a plan that helps your body feel safe.
If anxiety is part of what’s keeping your body tense, you can also explore Hypnotherapy for Anxiety in Sydney.
An Effective and Practical Mind-Body Approach
My approach combines hypnotherapy (to address the subconscious threat response) with trauma-informed breathwork (to help your body process emotions, connect and practise safety and regulation in real time).
Breathwork in this work is not about “breathing correctly.” It’s a way to support your nervous system so your body can soften out of protection, especially when anxiety spikes or anticipation kicks in.
Rapid Transformational Therapy® (RTT®) and clinical hypnotherapy help change the underlying pattern reframe your thoughts and ease anxiety around intercourse or medical exam, while breathwork helps you build a felt sense of control and trust in your body.
This work is aimed at:
-
Reducing anticipatory anxiety and “bracing”
-
Feeling more choice and control in your body
-
Changing unhelpful beliefs about sex and safety
-
Supporting smoother progress if you’re also doing pelvic floor physio
-
Rebuilding confidence and comfort over time
If you’d like to understand the process in more detail, you can read How RTT® works and Trauma-informed breathwork. If you prefer to get to know me first, visit my About page.
I can work alongside your GP, pelvic floor physiotherapist, or sex therapist. Multidisciplinary approaches are commonly recommended. (Australian Journal of general Practice)
How Hypnotherapy Can Help with Vaginismus
Hynotherapy combined with RTT® work with the subconscious mind, the part of you that runs automatic protective responses.
Together we identify what’s maintaining the pattern (fear conditioning, beliefs, pain memories, pressure to perform, shame, past experiences, relationship stress), then update it with new, safer associations.
In sessions, we work to reduce the fear signal, update the subconscious associations, and build calm control you can use in real life.
This is not about forcing anything. This gentle process is about creating the internal conditions where your body no longer needs to brace.
What Makes My Approach Different
Most vaginismus support focuses on the physical mechanics (which can be essential). My work focuses on the mind–body driver: the subconscious “danger” pattern that keeps the pelvic floor guarding switched on.
If you’re also doing pelvic floor physiotherapy, this can make your physical work easier because your nervous system isn’t fighting you.
Who This Is For
(and Who It’s Not)
This is for you if:
-
You want a calm, confidential approach that respects your boundaries.
-
You’re willing to work with both mind and body.
-
You’re open to addressing anxiety, fear conditioning, and body protection patterns.
-
You’re willing to get medical input if symptoms suggest underlying pain conditions.
Not for you if:
-
You want a guaranteed outcome in a specific number of sessions
-
You’re looking for explicit sexual coaching
(I’m not a substitute for sex therapy)
-
You have new/unexplained pelvic pain and haven’t checked in with a GP to rule out medical causes first
How It Works:
Sessions in Sydney Inner West and Online
Step 1. Free consultation (up to 30 mins)
We’ll discuss what’s happening, what you’ve tried, what you want instead, and whether I’m the right fit. No pressure, no awkwardness, just clarity.
Step 2. First session
If you decide to proceed, during your first session, we map your pattern (triggers, fear response, avoidance loop), agree on goals, and begin the therapeutic work.
Step 3. Reinforcement & self-help tools
During your sessions, I will share with you practical regulation tools (soothing the nervous system, reducing anticipatory anxiety) you can use between sessions, especially for anticipation, anxiety, or “tightening” moments.
Many clients choose a 3-session package. You can view the structure and investment here:
If you’re ready to begin, you can book directly, or start with a free consultation first.
Sessions are available in-person in Balmain and Five Dock (Inner West Sydney), or online across Australia (AEST).
