Hypnotherapy for gut health, Sydney

Imagine being free of the pain, bloating and fatigue that accompanies gut problems like IBS (irritable bowel syndrome). Imagine freely enjoying meals with friends and family, without worrying about what comes next – flatulence, nausea, constipation or diarrhoea.

Gut discomfort is inextricably linked to stress through the nervous system. By working on your mind and body at once, you can be released from your symptoms.

I offer hypnotherapy for gut health at my Sydney practice. It works especially well when combined with a healthy food plan. This  combination works best to bring you the long-lasting relief you're looking for.

The Gut-Brain Connection and Stress Cycle

When you are nervous, where do you feel it? Butterflies in the stomach will be a familiar sensation. In fact your whole digestive system can react, right alongside your brain, to external circumstances.

Around 1 in 5 of Australians suffers from gut-related discomfort, such as IBS, which is often associated with prolonged stress. Your nervous system, which includes your brain, impacts directly on your digestion, and vice versa, sending you into a spiral of both mental and physical strain.

The nervous system of the gastrointestinal tract is often referred to as our 'second brain'. It communicates all the time with the central nervous system (the brain and spinal cord). This communication forms a gut–brain connection that influences sleep, immune function and digestion.

Once you are in a cycle of stress and gut discomfort, it's hard to break free because the connection works both ways. Gut problems can be caused and exacerbated by stress, and we now know that an imbalance in the gut sends warning messages to the brain that lead to anxiety and sometimes depression.

This is why you need both dietary support and relief from stress triggers through gut hypnotherapy.

What is gut hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy for a healthy gut reduces gastrointestinal symptoms and sensitivity by working directly on the mind, the nervous system and the connection between the two.

Studies have shown that gut hypnotherapy achieves lasting results, reducing gastrointestinal symptoms of IBS by 70–80%. It works particularly well when combined with support from a naturopath and/or a nutritionist. It's important to continue regulating your diet, even if this hasn't been successful for you in the past.

I work alongside nutritionists and naturopaths to give you a holistic solution to gut problems.

How does gut hypnotherapy work?

Hypnotherapy relieves gut issues by easing the digestive process and calming the nervous system.

By relieving stress through hypnosis, there is a direct impact on your digestive system. Hypnotherapy also eases the digestive process and calms the nervous system that reacts to gut discomfort. This helps to break the feedback loop between the brain and the gut.

Through hypnotic suggestions, your mind and gut return to harmony, increasing the speed of digestion, and diminishing gastrointestinal symptoms.

Imagine taking your power back, being in control of your inner wellbeing and enjoying a clear perspective.

Hypnotherapy for stress relief

It's possible that you're unaware of your heightened anxiety or distress. Yet when stress hormones are continually released into your system, there's a significant impact on your overall wellbeing, as they shut down metabolic processes, such as digestion, reproduction, growth and immunity.

This is why you experience physical symptoms when stress is constant and unmanaged which include:

  • lack of sleep

  • weakened immune system

  • digestion problems.

Hypnotherapy can help to explore the underlying triggers that cause you to become stressed and unable to release the pressure. To achieve this, you may need to let go of your busy mind and literally trust your gut. It's telling you to slow down, breathe and pay attention to what's really going on for you.

By laying down new ways of thinking about your stressors, you can find periods of calm, giving your mind and body time to recover. This in turn will reduce the discomfort in your digestive system, and help your mind to relax and recover. Your sessions may also include stress management techniques to take forward with you.
